What is Qurbani and who is it obligatory on?

Qurbani is the act of sacrificing livestock during the days of Eid al-Adha, in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) obedience to Allah ﷻ.
It is wajib (obligatory) on every Muslim who is:

– Of sound mind
– Past the age of puberty
– Possesses wealth beyond their needs that meets the nisab threshold

This act should be done once per person (or on behalf of someone) during the three days of Eid.

Can I choose where my Qurbani is delivered?

Yes. With this partnership between NZZF and MAA, you can choose from multiple regions including Gazan refugees, Sudan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Sri Lanka and Indonesia – or choose “Where Most Needed” to send your Qurbani to areas facing the most urgent crises.

How do I know it’s done correctly?

We treat your Qurbani as an amanah. In accordance with Shariah, every sacrifice is :

– Carried out by trained Muslims
– With takbeer recited
– During the correct days of Eid

You will receive confirmation, and we document distributions to ensure full transparency.

What makes this Qurbani halal and ethical?

We ensure:

– Animals are healthy, of age, and well-fed

When is the last day to give Qurbani?

The last day to perform Qurbani is the third day of Eid al-Adha (13th Dhul Hijjah).
To ensure your Qurbani is done on time, we recommend donating by the night before Eid in your local timezone.

Can I give on behalf of someone else?

Yes, you can offer Qurbani on behalf of your family members, deceased relatives, or even the entire Ummah.
Just ensure your intention (niyyah) is clear at the time of donation.

How is my Qurbani distributed?

Once your Qurbani is performed, the fresh meat is packaged hygienically and distributed immediately to needy families, orphans, and widows in your selected region.

How is this different from just giving charity?
